What to expect

Meet the largest predators of the Netherlands

They look incredibly cute, but seals are in fact the largest predators in the Netherlands. These remarkable animals live in large numbers around Texel, on the sandbanks of the Wadden Sea. During our popular seal tour, you’ll sail from the harbour of Oudeschild right up to the spots where they bask in the sun. Here you can admire them in their natural habitat: the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Both common seals and grey seals live around Texel. The common seal is smaller with a round head, while the grey seal has a longer snout and is considerably larger. Our skipper will point out exactly what to look for — and loves sharing his best stories about these animals.

Meet skipper Frido

Boot Varen Texel. His company isn’t called that for nothing. Skipper Frido Boom is passionate about boats, sailing and Texel. He comes from a true fishing family in Oudeschild and grew up in the Wadden Sea area, surrounded by fish and seals. For years, he shared his knowledge of the mudflats and the fishing industry during mudflat walking and shrimp fishing tours. A few years ago, he changed course: he had the Anna built and started offering boat trips from the fishing harbour of Oudeschild with small groups.

It’s never dull with Frido. Never quiet either. On board, he makes sure you have everything you need and shares fun facts about the fishing industry, the seals and the surrounding area.
